A doa (or doe) boat. - is a traditional Arab sailing vessel widely used in Oman, as well as in other countries in the Gulf region and East Africa. These wooden boats have a unique, recognizable design that reflects the ancient maritime traditions of the region.
The main characteristics of the dhow boat:
- Material: Boats are traditionally built of wood, often using teak or other sustainable wood.
- Sail: Doa usually has one or more sails in the shape of a Latin sail (triangular shape), which allows for efficient use of the wind.
- Dimensions: Dhows can range in size from small boats used for fishing to large vessels designed for long sea voyages and commerce.
- Utilization: Doa were used to transport goods such as spices, textiles and pearls, as well as fishing and even traveling between countries and continents.
Dhow boats are an important part of the cultural heritage of Oman and other coastal regions of the Arabian Peninsula.
